Why Every Ingredient Matters

At Tea for Guys, ingredient selection is not an afterthought — it is the product. We start with published clinical research and work backward to source the highest-quality botanical form of each ingredient available. Every herb, root, leaf, and fruit in our blends has been selected for a specific physiological purpose supported by peer-reviewed evidence.

We source directly from established growing regions known for optimal soil composition, altitude, and traditional cultivation expertise. Our Ashwagandha comes from India, our Yerba Mate from South America, our Green Tea from Japanese highlands. We never bulk-buy generic commodity herbs. Each lot is tested for heavy metals, pesticide residues, and microbial contamination before it enters any blend.

Transparency matters. You will never find a "proprietary blend" weight on our labels that hides individual dosages. We believe you deserve to know exactly what you are drinking and why. The sections below break down every single ingredient across our three core blends — what it does, where it comes from, and the research behind it. This is functional tea, built for men who demand more from what they consume.

Testosterone & Vitality Support

Sleep & Recovery

Chamomile, hops, and skullcap on dark wood with evening light

Our Nighttime Blend is engineered for restorative sleep — the single most powerful recovery tool a man has. Deep, uninterrupted sleep is when testosterone peaks, muscle repairs, and the brain consolidates everything from the day. These six botanicals work synergistically to calm the nervous system, reduce sleep-onset latency, and promote slow-wave sleep without the grogginess of pharmaceuticals.

Skullcap

In our: Nighttime Blend  Origin: United States

What it does: Skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora) is a nervine herb that modulates GABA receptors to reduce nervous tension and promote mental calm. It eases the racing thoughts that keep men staring at the ceiling long past bedtime.

American skullcap has been used for centuries as a mild sedative and anxiolytic in traditional Western herbalism. Modern research confirms its flavonoids — particularly baicalin and scutellarein — bind GABA-A receptors, producing anxiolytic effects without significant sedation during waking hours. A double-blind study demonstrated that skullcap significantly reduced anxiety in healthy volunteers without impairing cognitive performance (PMID: 24130811).

Chamomile

In our: Nighttime Blend  Origin: Egypt

What it does: Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) is one of the most well-studied calming herbs on the planet. Its apigenin content binds benzodiazepine receptors in the brain, gently promoting sleepiness and reducing anxiety.

Beyond its reputation as a gentle bedtime tea, chamomile has real clinical backing. Apigenin — the primary bioactive flavonoid — acts as a mild tranquilizer by modulating GABAergic neurotransmission. A randomized controlled trial in adults with generalized anxiety disorder showed that long-term chamomile use significantly reduced moderate-to-severe GAD symptoms and lowered systolic blood pressure (PMID: 27912875).

Hops

In our: Nighttime Blend  Origin: Germany

What it does: Hops (Humulus lupulus) contains the prenylated flavonoid 2-methyl-3-buten-2-ol, which acts on GABA receptors to reduce sleep-onset latency. It is especially effective when combined with chamomile and passionflower for compounding sedative benefit.

While most people associate hops with beer, the female flower cones have been used medicinally as a sleep aid since at least the 9th century. The volatile compound 2-methyl-3-buten-2-ol increases during drying and is believed to be the primary sedative agent. Clinical research using a hops–passionflower combination demonstrated significant improvements in sleep quality and reduced sleep latency compared to placebo (PMID: 16012761).

Damiana

In our: Nighttime Blend  Origin: Mexico

What it does: Damiana (Turnera diffusa) is a traditional nervine that supports relaxation, mood stability, and a calm transition into sleep. Its mild anxiolytic profile pairs well with chamomile and hops in the Nighttime Blend without producing morning sedation.

Turnera diffusa has been used across Central America for centuries as a calming, mood-supporting herb. Modern research attributes its effects to flavonoids that modulate GABA tone and reduce evening sympathetic arousal, helping the body settle into restorative sleep without the dependency risks associated with synthetic sedatives (PMID: 19501274).

Passionflower

In our: Nighttime Blend  Origin: India

What it does: Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) boosts brain GABA levels and modulates the sleep-wake cycle, making it particularly effective for men whose stress or cortisol levels interfere with restful sleep.

Passionflower has a long history of use in Ayurvedic and Native American traditions for anxiety and insomnia. The chrysin and vitexin flavonoids it contains are believed to produce its calming effects through GABAergic modulation. A double-blind, placebo-controlled study showed that passionflower tea consumed over a seven-day period significantly improved subjective sleep quality measures in adults with mild sleep irregularities (PMID: 21294203).

Rooibos

In our: Nighttime Blend  Origin: South Africa

What it does: Rooibos (Aspalathus linearis) is a naturally caffeine-free South African red bush herb rich in aspalathin and quercetin. As the soothing base of the Nighttime Blend, it provides a smooth, slightly sweet body and broad antioxidant support that pairs well with the sleep-promoting botanicals around it.

Rooibos has been consumed in southern Africa for centuries as a calming, caffeine-free evening beverage. Modern research highlights its unique aspalathin content for supporting healthy glucose metabolism and reducing oxidative stress markers, making it an ideal nightly base that supports recovery without interfering with sleep architecture (PMID: 21496158).

Sourcing & Quality Standards

Every ingredient in a Tea for Guys blend is certified organic or sourced from wild-harvested, pesticide-free environments. We refuse to cut costs with conventional-grade botanicals. Organic certification matters because the herbs you steep in hot water release everything they contain — including any pesticide residues, heavy metals, or synthetic fertilizer byproducts present in conventionally grown crops. Our supply chain prioritizes USDA Organic and EU Organic-certified farms, and every lot we purchase comes with a current certificate of organic compliance.

Third-party testing is not optional at Tea for Guys — it is a foundational requirement. Each incoming batch of raw material undergoes independent laboratory analysis for microbial contaminants (E. coli, Salmonella, yeast, mold), heavy metals (lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury), and pesticide residue panels. We also verify active-compound potency to ensure that the ashwagandha you drink actually contains the withanolide concentration we promise on the label. Our testing partners are ISO 17025-accredited facilities, and we maintain certificates of analysis (COAs) for every production run.

Sustainability guides every sourcing decision. We partner with farms that employ regenerative agriculture practices — cover cropping, composting, and crop rotation — because healthy soil produces more potent botanicals and protects the land for future harvests. Our packaging uses biodegradable tea sachets and recyclable outer pouches. We believe that a product built to support men's long-term health should not come at the expense of the planet's long-term health. From field to cup, every link in our supply chain is designed to be transparent, traceable, and responsible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are all Tea for Guys ingredients certified organic?

Yes. Every botanical in our four blends is sourced from USDA Organic or EU Organic-certified farms. Where certified organic supply is not available for a particular origin, we source from verified pesticide-free, wild-harvested environments and confirm purity through independent laboratory testing. We never use conventionally grown herbs treated with synthetic pesticides or fertilizers.

Do any of your blends contain common allergens?

Our blends are free from gluten, dairy, soy, nuts, eggs, and shellfish. They contain no artificial flavors, colors, sweeteners, or preservatives. All blends are caffeine-free with the exception of the Energy Blend (which contains natural caffeine from green tea and yerba mate) and the Fasting Blend (which contains moderate natural caffeine from green tea). If you have a known allergy to any plant in the Asteraceae/Compositae family (which includes chamomile), please consult your healthcare provider before consuming the Nighttime Blend.

Where do you source your ingredients?

We source each ingredient from the region where it grows best and has the strongest tradition of use. Our ashwagandha comes from India, horny goat weed from China, Siberian Ginseng from Russia, yerba mate from Argentina, hops from Germany, and chamomile from Egypt — among many other origin-specific selections. Every supplier is vetted for organic certification, sustainable farming practices, and consistent active-compound potency. We maintain full traceability from farm to finished sachet.

Why these specific botanicals instead of synthetic supplements?

Every ingredient in a Tea for Guys blend was selected based on peer-reviewed clinical evidence, traditional use spanning centuries, and synergistic compatibility with the other herbs in its blend. Whole-plant botanicals contain complex matrices of bioactive compounds — flavonoids, saponins, polyphenols, alkaloids — that often work together in ways isolated synthetic compounds cannot replicate. We chose the tea format specifically because hot-water extraction is one of the most efficient methods for releasing these water-soluble bioactives, delivering them in a form your body can readily absorb.

How do you verify potency and purity through third-party testing?

Every incoming batch of raw material is sent to an independent, ISO 17025-accredited laboratory before it enters production. Testing covers microbial contaminants (E. coli, Salmonella, total aerobic count, yeast, and mold), heavy metals (lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury), a broad pesticide residue panel, and active-compound assay to verify potency — for example, withanolide content in ashwagandha and ginsenoside levels in ginseng. Batches that do not meet our specifications are rejected. We maintain certificates of analysis for every production run and are happy to share them with customers upon request.
